Getting Back to God

Growing up believing in God is the one belief that established the moral foundation on which I built my character. This is a shared experience by many in my culture. The challenge is when we grow up in the world and not in the Word. Over time, I strayed from the path my mother worked so diligently to guide me. “If I can get you to look 2 degrees slightly to the left consistently over time, then I can make you lose focus on your original position.” We’re here for a long time, not a good time. The world made me believe that it was the opposite.

I did not understand that others also strayed away from the path. It wasn’t until I received a call from Elohim to come home. But to return, I dare not come back alone.

E·lo·him

/ˌelōˈhēm,eˈlōˌhim,eˈlōˌhēm/

noun

  1. a name for God used frequently in the Hebrew Bible.

Wrath (from The Seven Deadly Sins) by James Todd

The wise once said that fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. As a child, I was always afraid. As a man, only One brought fear into my spirit. I always believed that I was wise, but I am simply beginning my journey. As I look back, I replaced faith with Wrath. Fear taught me that faith is far more powerful than rage.

When you’re too afraid to move, Wrath abandons you.

When you need to find the courage to act, faith encourages you.

As I walk by faith and not by sight, I find myself being guided back towards the path. “Every Saint has a past and every sinner has a future.” If I can make my way back, then so can others. This is why we were instructed not to judge.

mer·cy

/ˈmərsē/

noun

  1. compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm.

Thank God for being merciful. Could you imagine if your last breath was filled with regret? A terrifying thought. But the beauty of life is the possibility of ‘tomorrow.’ A chance at redemption. It is cruel and unjust to wish for conviction on others after receiving forgiveness for yourself. Wrath leads you off of the path and mercy brings you back.
